Why routine care matters
Most serious dental problems begin small and silent. A pinpoint of decay between two teeth, an early shadow on the gum tissue, a crack you cannot feel yet: these are the findings that matter, and they are the findings a careful exam catches early enough to address conservatively.
Routine cleanings remove the hardened plaque and bacteria that brushing and flossing cannot reach. They also give the hygienist a chance to spot subtle changes (early gum recession, a tooth wearing unevenly) that are easier to address before they become a problem.
What to expect
Visits are unhurried here. A typical exam-and-cleaning appointment includes a thorough professional cleaning, a periodontal assessment, an oral cancer screening, an evaluation of any existing dental work, and digital imaging when clinically appropriate.
Findings are explained directly. If something needs treatment, Dr. Lina presents the options openly, including whether watching the issue is appropriate before intervening. There is no upsell.
When to come in
Most adults benefit from a routine exam and cleaning every six months. Patients with a history of periodontal disease, heavy plaque buildup, or other specific risk factors may benefit from a more frequent schedule: three or four months between visits.
If you have not been seen in a few years, the first visit is an unhurried baseline appointment that builds the foundation for everything that follows.
Questions
Frequently asked.
How often should I come in?
Most patients are seen every six months. Patients with a history of periodontal issues, heavy plaque buildup, or specific risk factors may benefit from a three- or four-month interval. Dr. Lina recommends a schedule based on your case.
What does an exam include?
A thorough check of the teeth and existing restorations, an evaluation of the gums and supporting tissues, an oral cancer screening, and digital imaging when indicated. Findings are explained in plain language.
Are X-rays necessary at every visit?
No: imaging is taken on a clinically appropriate schedule, not at every visit. Bitewings every one to two years are typical for most adults; a full panoramic image less frequently. Dr. Lina recommends the minimum needed for sound diagnosis.
