When to call
A dental emergency is anything that cannot reasonably wait until the next available routine appointment. The most common situations are severe or persistent tooth pain, a tooth that has been knocked out or significantly broken, swelling that suggests an active infection, and bleeding that will not stop after sustained pressure.
If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies, call the office. The team can help triage the urgency and either schedule a same-day appointment or guide you on next steps.
Common reasons patients call us for same-day care:
- Broken Tooth
- Broken Crown or Bridge
- Cracked Tooth
- Chipped Tooth
- Broken Veneer
- Lost Filling
- Toothache
The practice keeps Saturday hours, so call Aesthetica Dental if you are looking for a dentist office open on Saturday. You don’t need to suffer through the weekend with a broken tooth.
What to expect
Same-day emergency appointments are focused on stabilizing the situation: relieving pain, addressing acute infection, and protecting the tooth or teeth involved while the longer-term plan is worked out. The full restorative work that may follow is scheduled at a normal appointment after the immediate problem is resolved.
Dr. Lina is candid about what is needed urgently and what can wait. Not every emergency calls for immediate definitive treatment; sometimes the right answer is to manage the acute issue and plan the rest carefully.
When to go to an emergency room instead
Some situations require the resources of a hospital emergency department rather than a dental office. Significant facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, suspected jaw fracture from trauma, or any situation involving loss of consciousness should be addressed at the nearest emergency room first.
Routine dental concerns, even uncomfortable ones, are almost always better addressed at the dental office, where the equipment and expertise specific to teeth and gums are available.
Questions
Frequently asked.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or persistent tooth pain, a tooth that has been knocked out or significantly broken, swelling that suggests infection, and bleeding that does not stop are all reasons to be seen the same day. Call the office and we will guide you on next steps.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Time matters. Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket if possible. If not, store it in milk or saliva and come in immediately. Reimplantation is most successful within an hour.
Do you offer after-hours emergency care?
Patients of record can reach the practice’s emergency line outside office hours for urgent guidance. For life-threatening symptoms (significant facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing), go directly to the nearest emergency room.
